Saif Ali Khan’s second home production is gearing up for a March 23 release. And as part of the promotional hype that plays an integral part in the marketing of any film these days, the actor-producer is readying a comic book, has tied up with McDonald’s for a line of merchandise and is designing a PlayStation3 game, all of which revolve around Agent Vinod.

The PS3 game is a first person shooter and will take the gamer, a prototype of the secret agent Saif plays on screen, through different levels of difficulty.
“At each level, he or she will be provided with clues to nail the bad guy, who could range from a `chaalu’ (street smart) knife-wielding dada (don) from Mumbai’s dark underbelly to an international mafia kingpin,“ explains Saif, adding, “If the baddie is killed in the shootout, the gamer earns points and moves on to the next level.“
Quiz him on whether this game is for his children, Sara and Ibrahim, and Saif admits that they are not the real gamers in his family. But he admits he is.
“When the first CDs came out, I was hooked. For a week to 10 days, I was lost in this dark virtual space, far away from the real world,“ he reminisces with a smile, confident that the Agent Vinod game too will find plenty of takers.
The biggest thrill for Saif is that the first action sequence seen in level one will open in Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum.
“Isn’t that cool?“ he asks excitedly. “If the film works, we are planning to build Agent Vinod into a brand.
And I’d like the sequel to open in Dharavi too.“
The film has been shot in 12 countries, including Morocco, Russia and Latvia, with the climax filmed in New Delhi.
Saif points out that he chose to produce a spy thriller because while Hindi cinema has dabbled in many genres, from mythology and romance to comedy and drama, spy thrillers have been sadly neglected and restricted to the Surakshas and the Gunmaster G9s for the lack of finance and finesse.
He points to Deepak Bahry’s 1977 film with Mahendra Sandhu as Agent Vinod, who goes haring off across the country in search of a kidnapped scientist, played by Nazir Hussain. “It had its moments and its Scorpion gang, but it wasn’t technically slick. Our film is nothing like that Agent Vinod, we’ve only borrowed the title,“ points out Saif.
He admits that he didn’t have the budget of a Bond or Bourne movie either, or for that matter, even an animated Tintin. But he still has managed to come up with a film that has sparked off interest with its first poster and promo.
“Vinod is not Bond, he’s a very Indian character. The only similarity is that you could put him on a yacht, in a helicopter or in a foreign location and he won’t seem out of place,“ says the actor.
“And the places where we’ve filmed have given the movie a scale with 1/10th budget of a Bond movie. We shot in live locations, used locals in crowd scenes instead of an army of junior artistes. We canned incredible car chases with the support of the administration in Morocco and Latvia, and hopefully, we’ve come up with an agent who’s no less exciting than 007.“

After a regular nine-to-five job in Australia, Malika Haydon picked as latest it girl on the block, shakes it in spy thriller Agent Vinod
At 19, she featured in a Pepsi commercial with cricketing legends like Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar. But soon, Malika Haydon moved to Sydney, Australia for further studies and gradually ended up working in the accounts section of an Australian company. But seven years later, the 27-yearold is back home to explore a new territory.
Malika will make her Bollywood debut with an item number titled `I’ll do the talking…’ in Saif Ali Khan’s Agent Vinod. For the uninitiated, her younger sibling Lisa has already featured in a couple of films such as Aisha (2010) and Rascals (2011). But Agent Vinod makers say they haven’t roped in Malika because she is “someone’s sister.“

“For us, freshness was an important factor. And since no one has seen Malika around much, it worked for us. And let me clarify, we haven’t signed her just because she is Lis sister. She simply fit the profile we were looking for.
And she has done a fantastic job,“ says the film’s co-producer and Saif’s business partner, Dinesh Vijan, adding that the song was shot at a club in Russia.
“The pre-requisites that an Agent Vinod girl should be stunning and absolutely gorgeous weren’t enough for the track. The idea was to have a mainstay who could really hold it together and drive the song. We searched, short-listed and it wasn’t really rocket science when we found Malika,“ he says.
Besides the item number, Malika will also feature in the 2012 edition of the Kingfisher Calendar. In the past, the halfIndian, half-Australian model has worked with designers like Tarun Tahiliani and Rohit Bal, besides doing fashion shows for hairdressers Toni & Guy and Brazilian designer Jatali.
According to Vijan, there’s also a storyline attached to the song. “For the time being, let it be suspense. Agent Vinod has a lot of characters. And all of them have very unique looks. So, when it came to choosing a girl for the dance number, Malika impressed us due to the same factor ­ uniqueness. Her USP is that she has an international face but carries an Indian attitude too,“ he says.
Agent Vinod’s franchise?
Agent Vinod is on its way to hit silver screens. But even before Saif Ali Khan’s spy flick releases in March, talks of it becoming a franchise have already started doing the rounds. But Saif is not in a hurry. “Certainly, it’s on my mind. But rather than getting ahead of ourselves, I would like to wait. A lot of people talk about the franchise before even considering the success of the first film. I feel that it should be born out of public demand,“ says the actor, adding that a franchise would depend if “it goes down well and people like it.“
And to make sure audiences like his spy outing, Saif has followed, what he calls a “slightly more real approach“ than the old Agent Vinod. “It’s substantially different. We have a lot of respect for the old one. In fact, we have done a little homage in a couple of sequences either by mentioning characters or having similar names. We have, for once, considered a similar plot but ultimately, we have followed a slightly more real approach with a more realistic global problem,“ he says.

الممثل والمنتج سيف علي خان التقى بمصمم العاب لكي يصمم لعبة للعميل فينود على جهاز بلاي ستيشن 3
اللعبة ستكون عبارة عن العميل فينود وهو يظهر في الشاشة وبمستويات مختلفة من الصعوبة
وقال سيف : في كل مرحلة من اللعبة يحاول اللاعب او اللعبة ان يحصل على دليل في نهاية المرحلة ويقتلون الشخص السئ وبهذا ينتقل اللاعب الى المرحلة التالية
وعندما سؤل سيف بخصوص اذا كانت هذه اللعبة تناسب الاطفال مثل اولاده سارة وابراهيم فان سيف قال ان اولادي ليسو بلاعبين حقيقيين وان اللعبة سوف تجد العديد من الناس الذين يشترونها اذا نجح الفيلم
المرحلة الاولة من اللعبة ستكون في اسيا في الاحياى الفقيرة في منطقة دهارفي
وقال سيف : اليس هذا ممتعا ؟ اذا نجح الفيلم سوف نفعله لعبة وانا اريد ان امثل بداية الجزء الثاني في دهارفي
الفيلم صور في 12 دولة من ضمنها روسيا والمغرب ونيو دلهي ودول اخرى
سيف اتجه لانتاج فيلم جاسوسي وذلك لان هذه النوعية من الفلام مهملة في الهند للاسف حيث ان الهند تحب الافلام الرومانسية والكوميدية والدرامية
سيف يقول ان العميل فينود لا يشبه جيمس بوند ابدا النقطة الوحيدة هي انه يركب اليخت والهيليكوبتر

س : لقد اخذت وقتا طويلا في عمل العميل فينود هل هناك اسباب لهذا التاخير ؟
سيف : كنا نخطط لهذا الفيلم منذ سنتين وذلك لانه فيلم خاص جدا وكنا نريد ان نعمله منذ ايام لف اج كال ولكننا صورنا لف اج كال في البداية لانه اسهل من العميل فينود وهذا الفيلم هو حلمي ولذلك فقد انتجته بنفسي وانا سعيد الان ان اقول ان الفيلم قد انتهى الان
س : لذلك انت تريد ان تكون الان جيمس بوند الهند ؟
سيف : لا يوجد شبه بين فينود وجيمس فجيمس هو شخص اجنبي وزير نساء ويحب الشرب اما فينود فهو شخص هندي ومنذ اللحطة الاولى سوف تدرك ان فينود يختلف عن جيمس
س : هل هناك شبه بينك وبين فينود ؟
سيف : نحن الاثنان صادقين جدا بالاضافة الى ان فينود وسيم وانا وسيم ايضا
س : كارينا تلعب معك دور البطولة كيف تؤثر على الفيلم ؟
سيف : كارينا ممثلة ماهرة جدا ووجودا يضيف للفيلم وهذه سنة جيدة لها
س : هل تعتقد ان نجاحات كارينا في شباك التذاكر لهذه السنة سوف تضيف للفيلم ؟
سيف : ان شاء الله سوف تضيف الكثير لاننا نعلم جيدا ان الحظ اهم شئ ونحن نعمل بجهد وننتظر الحظ وكارينا ممثلة محظوظة لذلك نحن اخترنا ممثلة محظوظة

سيف : انا لا احب مقارنتي باي احد من الخانات كلهم نجوم كبار ولكنني قضيت 20 عاما في الصناعة واريد ان احقق احلامي واستفيد من خبرتي ولا اريد ان افكر بالناس المحيطة بي
س : يبدو ان هذه السنة هي سنة عودة الابطال للاكشن مثل اكشاي كومار وسلمان خان واجاي ديفخان وشاروخان وانت وكلكم قمتم بانتاج افلامكم بانفسكم من هو بطلك المفضل في الاكشن ؟
سيف : اوه الجميع جيدون جدا في الاكشن . اكشاي كومار استثنائي في الاكشن ويصلح جدا للاكشن وسلمان خان رائع والجميع رائعون وكلهم نجوم ولهم افلامهم المميزة ولكن بالنسبة لسؤالك فليس لدي اي ممثل مفضل في الاكشن
