They are the style icons… they inspire the youth! They are the dream merchants! We are talking about the big names of world’s largest film industry Bollywood.

Over the years, we have seen the Bollywood heroes stirring the lives of people in some or the other way. So much so that now the industry has made an impact on the global front. And interestingly, amid all the limelight, today the Bollywood stars have become an industry in themselves.

Bollywood movies are gathering humungous amounts at the box office, and with this, movie stars are minting money themselves. For celebrities like Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Shahrukh Khan and others, amounts like Rs 2-3 crore may be just like change in the wallet!

Akshay Kumar

The Khiladi of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar, has been heading the list of highest paid actors for quite sometime now. Kumar, who gradually took over the ‘Khan brigade’, has made a niche for himself in mindless comedies. This actor-cum-producer is said to charge a whopping Rs 15 crore per movie.

Aamir Khan

The ‘perfectionist’ Aamir Khan is known for being selective about both his films amd brands he endorses. Khan is not only among the list of highest paid actors, but is also known for giving highest delivery rate. Aamir Khan, who is known for doing one movie every year, charges between Rs 13-14 crore per movie.

Shahrukh Khan

The ‘Bollywood badshah’ Shahrukh Khan is said to take home a humongous Rs 12 crore per movie. However, according to sources, after the disastrous Ra-One the actor was probably able to pay just Rs 5 crore compared to the Rs 10 crore of advance tax that he paid same period, last year.

Salman Khan

Salman Khan was in news a while back for signing Rs 7-crore deal for endorsing a food supplement. With films like Wanted, Dabangg and Ready, the ‘style bhai’ of Bollywood earned back his lost reputation of a hit actor. Salman Khan is said to charge Rs 8-10 crore a movie.

Hrithik Roshan

This green-eyed boy tasted success overnight, after the release of his debut movie Kaho Na Pyar Hai. The actor who has been under scanner of critics, has come a long way in his career. With stellar performances in movies like Dhoom 2, Jodha Akbar and Agneepath Roshan has proved it time and again that he is here to stay. The actor is said to be charging approximately Rs 10 crore for each movie.

Kareena Kapoor

Among the leading ladies, latest reports suggest that Kareena Kapoor is the highest paid actress in Bollywood. With many blockbusters to her credit, Bebo has turned out to be the most popular at the box office. The light-eyed actress, known for sharing equal screen space with her male co-stars, is said to be earning Rs 8 crore. Kapoor charges Rs 5 crore as a film fee and Rs 3 crore for endorsements.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif stands at the second position in the list of highest paid Bollywood actresses. Like Kareena Kapoor, this Chikni Chameli item girl is also said to be earning Rs 8 crore from movies and endorsements together. However, the Kapoor girl being more popular than Katrina, she has to be content with the second ranking.

Aishwarya Rai

The Bachchan bahu rani and internationally renowned actress Aishwarya Rai too is placed in the league of her other two Bollywood counterparts. The former Miss World, is also said to be earning Rs 8 crore (together from films and endorsements). However, this year, she has supposedly paid Rs 2.5 crore of income tax versus Rs 3 crore, same period, last year. Reports suggest that Rai earns Rs 4 crore from the brand endorsements and charges the same amount for each film project.

Priyanka Chopra

Another former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra has recently joined the league of the highest paid actresses of Bollywood. The dusky babe is said to be earning Rs 6 crore from movies and ads. Chopra charges Rs 3 crore each for per movie and the brand advertisements.

Akshay Kumar: 'I've had to turn down big stars'


Akshay Kumar has revealed that he has had to turn down established stars as a producer.

The Desi Boyz actor has his own production house which has released international films such as Breakaway.

Kumar told The Times of India: "Acting is way easier than production. Acting means you're just handling yourself; in production, you are handling a unit of 300 people.

"It's tough. You're handling other actors, which is a big job. You have to ensure the film's success. There are lots of things.

"I don't hurt [actors], but I say it in a very diplomatic way - I'd say [there are] date problems and all."

Kumar's next project Oh My God sees him playing both a Muslim and a Hindu.

In March, the actor admitted that 2011 was an unsuccessful year for him and that he plans to concentrate on action films

The Dirty Dozen. TWF correspondent Sreya Basu chats up with the actor on his new film, fashion, action and wife Twinkle Khanna

Every time a film releases, the cast and crew start thanking each other at the promotions. Are you doing the same for Housefull 2?

All my co-stars and crew keep on thanking each other for Housefull 2. I will also not be the odd one out. I will thank myself as I forced myself to work in this film. Also, I don’t like giving speeches. Speech should be like a mini skirt…the shorter the better.

Why is the tagline of the film The Dirty Dozen?

Sajid (Khan, director) would have answered it better. The film is about four fathers, their four daughters and their four prospective grooms. And all these twelve characters are very flawed. So they are all dirty in their own flawed way.

Whom do you consider as the most fashionable star of Bollywood?

Myself.

And apart from you?

Well, I think Salman (Khan) is very good. He has his own fashion grade.

Coming back to you being rated as the fashion icon of Bollywood, whom will you give the credit for your style statement?

Honestly speaking, I will give all the credit to my wife (Twinkle Khanna). Fashion and style are something you inherit from your parents. But I have inherited fashion from my wife. She made me fashionable.

Why don’t the two of you star in a film together again?

What are you saying! We did two films together (Zulmi and International Khiladi, released in 1999) and both flopped.

Many of your colleagues complain that you lose temper frequently on the sets. How true is that?

You will never find me angry. People, who know me, will tell you that I never get angry; very rarely mujhe gussa aata hai.

With Shah Rukh, Saif Ali Khan and Salman doing action films these days, do you feel you are losing the action hero title in Bollywood?

See, I have not done hard core action films for a long time. But I am returning to action once again. As for your question, none of us (actors) are fighting for any title. We are not horses at Mahalaxmi race course. We are all actors and one fraternity. We do films so that our industry moves forward. We all have three-four films in hand, so there is no need to fight.

How real are your stunts?

All stunts in my life so far have been done by me only. I have never taken the help of duplicates and/or wireworks. Action comes naturally to me. It’s a part of my life…in fact action is a part of me.

Media buzz says you are planning to quit action films…

Look, I am 45-year-old now. I will do action films for another five years. But after that I will do hard core stunts only of my body permits.

What is that one thing that you are scared of?

I am most scared of my wife.

Why?

Name one man who is not scared of his wife. Ask any married man and you will know.

Housefull 2 world premiere in Sentosa, Singapore


A star studded world premiere of Housefull 2 will take place at the Festive Grand, Resorts World at Sentosa in Singapore on April 3rd, 2012.

The entire star cast including Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, Shreyas Talpade, Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez, Zarine Khan, Shazahn Padamsee, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty and Boman Irani will be attending the world premiere along with the rest of the crew of Housefull 2.

Housefull 2, directed by Sajid Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala is the second installment of the Housefull 2 franchise and will release worldwide on April 5, 2012.
