Amul but er…
ASHWINI DESHMUKH
The Amul hoardings recently seen
across town, created quite a few murmurs
in the film industry. The hoardings
projected Akshay Kumar as the number
one hero, while the two Khans - Shah
Rukh and Aamir - are shown handing out
buttered toasts to Akshay with the tagline
saying, ‘Singh is King’. Apparently, this
running down of their numero uno position
has not gone down well with SRK
and Aamir.
Upset at this unwarranted assessment,
an industry insider close to both the
Khans said, “There have been spoofs
made on films like Taare Zameen Par and
Om Shaanti Om, but why are the two actors
made to look small in the ad, and
on what basis? Whose idea was it to
compare the actors and rate them?”
We contacted Rahul DaCunha, head
honcho of DaCunha Associates,
about the concept
of this particular ad.
He said, “For the moment
at least, after the release
of Sinngh is King,
Akshay was considered
to be the number one
and people too have accepted
him as the number
one hero. Even the
newspapers clearly declared
him as the number
one hero, it’s not as
though it’s our take entirely.”
But it’s true that there have been rumblings
in the industry questioning the
concept. DaCunha said, “Nothing has
reached my ears so far. Audiences take
such ad campaigns more like a joke. People
have to be sporting enough to laugh
off these matters.”
Aishwarya and
Abhishek Bachchan
SUBHASH K JHA
Aishwarya Rai has been offered to play
the part of Mumtaz Mahal at least five
times, the latest being for a film produced
by Ben Kingsley and featuring
him in the lead. But all the projects have fallen
through.
But now industry insiders tells us that a
major production house, one that has worked
with both Ash and Abhi, is seriously thinking
of casting Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan
as Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan respectively.
Says a source from the production
house, “After seeing how effectively Abhishek
has carried off his ‘period’ look in Drona, we
seriously want to cast Aishwarya and Abhishek
in a period film.” Will it work out this
time?
Incidentally, there seems to be an indelible
link between Abhishek Bachchan and the Taj
Mahal. No other present-day actor has shot
so often at Agra. In the past five years, Abhishek
has already shot five times at the Taj
Mahal! “That’s true,” says Abhishek having
just returned from his latest sojourn at the Taj
Mahal for Rakeysh Mehra’s Dilli 6.
Abhishek reels out the number of films he
has shot at the Taj Mahal, “The first time I
shot at the Taj Mahal was for one of my earliest
films Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya, followed by
Bunty Aur Babli. The following year we shot
Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom in Agra. And then last
year during Aishwarya’s birthday I was shooting
my cellphone advertisement in Agra. And
now I was there for Rakeysh’s film. It’s quite
uncanny.”
So much for Abhi’s tryst with the Taj Mahal.
Now, if only his project where he plays
Shah Jahan comes through, the romance will
be quite complete.
Good old love
Ash-Abhi to play Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan?
heardthis?
The recent Amul hoardings which projected Akshay Kumar as
the number one hero, rated over Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir
Khan, has raised questions in Bollywood
