Shankar (Aditya Pancholi) completes his studies abroad and returns to discover that his father Jagat Narayan (Amrish Puri) has transformed himself into an unscrupulous Godman who dupes gullible people. An evil coterie has sprung up around him and all kinds of crimes are rife. Shankar rebels and is thrown out of the house. Undaunted, he hires a famous magician Goga (Amitabh Bachchan) and pits him against Jagat Narayan. Things get complicated when Goga gets rid of the criminals, but becomes so enamoured of the power he wields, that he refuses to leave! This fantasy film is a change of track for both Amitabh Bachchan and director Prakash Mehra. Jaya Pradha and Amrita Singh play the leading ladies while the music is composed by Kalyanji ? Anandji.

The film resolves around two childhood friends Vikram Singh and Ajay Singh. Ajay singh grows up and becomes a Doctor (A messiah for the pheasants) while Vikram Singh takes over his ancestors inheritance, and fits into the mighty shoes of a Typical Thakur. Conflict begins between their friendship when Vikram Singh’s henchman Shamsher Singh abducts a pheasant girl. Dr Ajay gets Shamsher Singh arrested and thus the bitterness starts. This causes rivalry between the two, and the rest of the drama is on how the two battle out their differences and in the end once again re-unite to fight the villains
